Your first real chance to explore SGS College this academic year

A vast array of learning opportunities can be discovered at SGS College’s first open day of the academic year, Saturday 6 October, where visitors can learn all that the College has to offer, including full and part time courses, extra-curricular activities, finance, transport, student support, careers guidance and more.

SGS has five main campuses across Gloucestershire, Bristol and South Gloucestershire and has over 4000 full-time 16-18-year-old learners, 2000 apprentices and 5000 adult students. All campuses offer a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, where learning is fun and it’s easy to socialise.

Since being formed in 2011, SGS College has gone from strength to strength, and now offers an even wider range of vocational and academic courses, in an even greater range of subjects.

At the College’s first ever Ofsted inspection in 2014, Ofsted praised the College for its highly effective strategic vision and direction, which concluded SGS as being, 'placed at the heart of its local communities, to serve the best interests of learners'. Another inspection in 2017 confirmed that ‘the College continues to be an integral part of the local community and a key player in the economic development of the region. Students benefit from links through very good work experience opportunities and a highly relevant curriculum that places a strong emphasis on employment’.

It wasn’t until student Chloe Gibbs attended an open day at SGS that she found just what she was looking for:

“I attended an SGS open day and got on really well with the teachers and instantly knew this was the place for me. The course was great and the staff also gave me lots of support when applying to university. I’m not sure I would have got in without their help.”

Student Millie Nemeth was amazed to discover what opportunities were available at college when compared to her local sixth forms:

“SGS offers a huge range of courses compared to the sixth forms I visited. I knew I wanted to work with animals but wanted to keep my career options open and the animal science course at SGS allowed me to do that. The course was amazing and the teaching was so much better than secondary school. I love the independence that college life brings.”

College Principal Sara-Jane Watkins, comments:

“SGS was established to provide a wider range of vocational and academic courses in our local communities, providing students with more choice, greater opportunities and a greater range of facilities from a larger, more efficient college.

“Our theme this academic year is “your first real chance”, which is about recognising that many learners may not have reached their full potential in other educational settings, but at SGS we do all we can to enable learners to exceed their expectations and to give them access to the widest range of opportunities that will support their future progression upon completion of their studies.

“We’ll be delighted to demonstrate to visitors all that the College has to offer at our open event on Saturday 6 October.”
