Student-led event raises funds for a friend in need

A group of SGS business students held a special event at SGS WISE Campus, 3rd May, to raise money for one of their close friends who recently and suddenly lost a loved one.

The team hosted a five-aside football match and mini rugby match, taking donations for entry to play, and also sold burgers and hot dogs from the College's catering van, which was kindly run by the Campus catering staff. There was also a raffle offering prizes such as Nando’s vouchers, a paintballing voucher and sweets.

The group managed to raise an amazing £198.20 for their friend to help contribute towards funeral costs for a loved one he sadly lost.

Their business lecturer, Anna Price, was impressed by their efforts and happy for the event to be counted as part of the students’ Event Planning unit.

Speaking about the event, Anna said:

“The students worked extremely hard on this event and their efforts paid off. It was lovely to witness the group all coming together to support their friend, to help him pay for the funeral and to show him how much everyone cares.”
