GCSE Results Day 2018

Happy learners received their GCSE results at SGS College yesterday; in what turned out to be another great year for the College.

The College’s English and maths results were above the national average of 33% for English and 25% for maths. High grades were up from the previous year, with some outstanding results on the GCSE Plus programme, including 45% 4-9 for English language, 57% 4-9 for English literature and 89% 4-9 for all science GCSEs, including an 8/9 for one standout student. The College also saw strong performance on the Pre-Access course, with over 50% of learners securing 4-9 in English. Many learners will now progress onto level three qualifications, including A levels and vocational diplomas.

Charlotte Mulligan was delighted with her results, obtaining B grades in all sciences and grade 5 in both English and maths.

“I'm ecstatic. It's taken two hours on the train every day to get to college but it's been worth it. The college couldn't have been more helpful or supportive. I couldn't recommend it any higher.”

Charlotte now plans to go to sixth form to study A levels.

Zack Gatehouse was happy to secure his grade 4 in English, which will enable him to study level two carpentry at SGS.

“School was hard because you have so many exams to do all at once. It was so much easier at SGS as I had the time I needed to focus. I also became a lot more open minded about what I could achieve. I'm really chuffed. College felt like a fresh start for me. It was a breeze to make new friends and staff were also really friendly.”

Mallissa Richardson needed her GCSEs in both English and maths

to progress her career so she decided to start with the English qualification last year and move onto maths this year if she was successful. Mallissa got the grade (6) she needed in English and now can’t wait to start her maths GCSE.

“I work as a family support worker and I feel the time has come to train and become a social worker. But to that that I need my maths and English GCSEs, so I’m really happy to have secured the grade I need in English. I'm now going to start maths this September.

“I was reluctant to go back to education at first but I'm so glad I did. SGS has been brilliant! I had really encouraging teachers. They were all brilliant. I found the whole experience really positive. Even the staff who didn't teach me have all been friendly and supportive. I’ve enjoyed studying so much I wish I could do it all over again.”
