Bell Decorating Academy launches at SGS

SGS College celebrated a new partnership with Bell Decorating Group, Wednesday 26 September, with the launch of the Bell Decorating Academy, which will focus on supplementing the painting and decorating skills taught in the college with hands-on experience.

Taking place at the College’s Filton campus, Craig Bell, CEO of Bell Group, presented Katie Bone, Head of Construction at SGS, with a plaque to commemorate the partnership. Craig also took a tour of the College’s construction facilities and spent time speaking with students.

Bell Group will now work with students throughout the year, delivering leadership talks, skill set workshops, masterclasses and industry knowledge. Students will also get the chance to be part of local community projects that will benefit people in need.

In addition to learning new skills and obtaining industry insight through the Bell Decorating programme students studying the College’s painting and decorating course, will also have a chance to gain valuable work experience and discover a variety of apprenticeship opportunities working with Bell Group.

The partnership aims to expand the potential of the progression routes from the classroom into employment, and it is hoped the initiative will help to narrow the skills gap identified in the painting and decorating industry nationally.

Katie Bone, Head of Construction at SGS, said:

“SGS has a long history of successful partnerships with employers to ensure our students are equipped with the skills that are needed within their chosen industry. This partnership with Bell Group provides a fantastic opportunity for our painting and decorating students to gain valuable knowledge, work experience and a chance of an apprenticeship with the company.”

Iain Johnston, Business Executive said:

“This is a marvellous opportunity for our Learners to gain vital industry experience and to engage with an industry leader. Partnerships like these are an essential part of the SGS College Apprenticeship experience for our Learners.”

Craig Bell CEO said:

"We believe our Academies will help close the gap between learning the theory of a trade and working on site, and will better prepare young people for the world of work. We support the Painting and Decorating students to gain valuable knowledge, fantastic work experience placements and first choice on Bell Group apprenticeships."
