Issue 2 of conTEXT launched at Bristol School of Art

Degree students at Bristol School of Art (SGS College) celebrated the launch of their new student journal, conTEXT, Wednesday 27 February.

This special event, which took place at the college’s prestigious art campus on Queens Road, featured an artwork exhibition in both the life room and corridors, screen printing, snail workshops and, in a unique twist, the team set up a virtual reality painting experience for guests to create a collaborative VR painting.

conTEXT, an annual publication, examines critical questions in art and design, including both visual and textual responses. Magda Nowak (Editorial Director + Graphics Year 2) and a team of HE students spent months developing the journal, taking responsibility for the selection of work, design and promotion.

This year, Bristol School of Art alumni, Will Bertram and Lee Enever, collaborated to design the front cover, which includes photography and VR imagery from the launch of conTEXT issue 1 (2018).

Speaking about the project, Lydia Wooldridge, Project Lead for conTEXT and lecturer at Bristol School of Art comments:

“The launch of conTEXT issue 2 was a great success and the workshops were a hit with guests. Art and design practitioners and academics working on critical theory were highly impressed by the standard of work.”
