Course Detail

Access to Higher Education - Humanities Pathway

Full time course

This course is designed for adults returning to education and who want to gain access to university with the option of a wide range of subject areas rather than in a specific professional role. This course will give you plenty of experience in various subjects, something that is invaluable for students returning to education after a period of time away.

What will I study?

During this course, you will be studying, language, sociology and law at Level 3 which will involve independent study, giving presentations and formal assessments.

What do I need to join?

You will need two GCSEs at grade 5 in English and maths, and will need to sit an entrance test. Specialist pathways may require higher grades: these will be discussed as part of your interview for the course.

How long is the course?

1 year.

How will I learn?

Classroom study will be used to teach you in an informative and interactive way. The course will be assessed through a range of different assignments collated into a course portfolio. The great majority of the assessments will be coursework based, together with some exam and practical project work.

How will I know how I am doing?

Assessment is continuous, and consists of coursework, portfolio building and regular one-to-one time with a personal tutor.

Are there any extra costs?

Alongside the fee for the course, material fees will be required at enrolment. Please note that financial support is available in certain circumstances, so please contact our Learner Services team to see what financial support may be available to you.

What can I do next?

The majority of students who successfully pass the Access to Higher Education Diploma go on to university.
